Technical Guide E241C Push Button Functions User-Accessible Button — Press Duration Behaviors & System Responses |
The E241C firmware supports a user-accessible momentary push button that provides distinct functions depending on how long the button is held. This guide covers each behavior, its trigger condition, and the expected system response.

Function Details
50 ms – < 1 second Serial Shell Configuration Prompt • Disconnects the 241 from the active message loop. • Forces any active tunnel connection to close. • Enters the serial shell configuration prompt via the serial port. • Prompt remains active until the exit ACP command is received, or 30 seconds pass with no valid command. • After the session ends, the 241 returns to normal tunneling availability. |
≥ 5 seconds at power-up Factory Default Reset • Hold button during power-up for 5 or more seconds, then release. • All user-modifiable settings are restored to factory defaults. • After reset completes, the 241 boots normally.
> 5 seconds (device running) Configuration Report — Printer • Hold button for more than 5 seconds while the device is running, then release. • A full 241 configuration report is sent to the attached printer on port TCP/9100. • Useful for generating a physical record of the current device configuration without a computer. |
⚠ Caution: Factory Reset is Irreversible All user-configured settings — network parameters, output formats, card type assignments, and any other customizations — will be permanently erased. Record your current configuration before performing a reset. |
Press Timing Precision The 50 ms minimum threshold prevents accidental activation from noise or incidental contact. Presses shorter than 50 ms are ignored. Presses at exactly 1 second or longer do not trigger the serial shell function — they transition to the 5-second behaviors based on total hold time. |
